However, I found the situation here in Hong Kong is different and I found something interesting and useful from this whole process so I would like to share with you.
I found the hotel price varies in every single agency and those were not cheaper than the price which I could get from the hotel directly eventually. The only reason I had to call travel agencies was to save time to check the availability in my wanted location as most hotels are full in Hong Kong especially in the peak season. Certainly, local travel agencies have better network to search available rooms to stay.
Generally, I would suggest this if you are looking for hotel without a tour package.
(Yes, there might be some exceptions in certain circumstances such as if you considering a tour package, agency would be better for all arrangements but I'm talking of making a hotel reservation solely)
First of all, decide where (location) you would like to stay.
If you want to focus on your business you might want to stay close to your client's office. However, if you are thinking more about leisure like me, stay close to the downtown like Tsim Sha Tsui, Central, Causeway Bay, Mong Kok etc.
Call the travel agency and ask the availability of the hotels around your desired location.Collect data from the travel agency, till you finalize the hotel which you would like to stay. Never finalize the hotel and make a reservation right away.
Once you made your decision, use Google to find the phone number of the hotel and make a reservation.Don't rely on your client company's administrative clerk to arrange your accommodation as they only focus on price so if you have chance to do this by yourself, keep my tip in mind and enjoy staying in Hong Kong and I assure you can stay in Hong Kong with the best satisfaction of both price and fun!
