So, I know my budget now and it's time for house hunting!
Well, yes, as I knew Hong Kong is pretty expensive to rent either to buy a flat so I didn't expect that I could buy a spacious flat of which I could have expected from my home country.
(According to global research quoted by SCMP on 10 Feb, Hong Kong is the world's fourth most expensive place to purchase a city centre flat surpassing New York and Paris)
Where to buy?
What should be my priority in making decision, Location or Environment?
For myself, location was my first priority. Of course, I did think about somewhere quiet with fresh air around New Territories. But time is money, I don't want to waste time on the bus. Few people I know from my company living in Kowloon or New Territories and after lunch I often notice their eyes are half opened and murmuring, "I woke up at 6am....." Oh, that is somewhat horrible to me. And most of all, my wife didn't want there; she didn't want to leave the Island and live far away from her parents are living. Also I wanted somewhere close and could reach office within 30 minutes. However, crowded and smoky Central wasn't in my consideration.
Finally, my wife gave me an idea - North Point! (I am not telling you that North Point is the best place to live in Hong Kong; it was just fitting our needs and our budget)
What?
So I have decided where to live, so what kind of house I should be expecting to buy?
I had absolutely no idea. As I had no idea how good condition or how good location is the house we could afford with our budget, we walked around almost all property agencies we come across North Point and showed our intention and budget and asked them for information. They showed us a few houses for sale and I got some idea what kind of house I can afford. For me it took about a few weeks to browse and make a decision, but well, I still think I bought it with too much hurry.
Finally, we found a cozy flat and my wife was so confident that this flat fit to us after the agent told us the asking price. So well, women have six-sense so I stopped house hunting and started to figure out how to make bargain.

*Info: The cheap ones, the real yummy deals, you can't find them from the property agents. Unless you have some connections with them, it is really hard to get such a good deal. If it's really attractive deal, agents will buy it first and place for resale. So, don't be so greedy; just see a lot of properties and adjust your expectation and budget.
